We’re also in the process of including more languages to help people understand the verses of the Qur’an in their native tongue. □ For the knowledge seekers, we’ve also incorporated various respected English translations to help interpret the meaning of each verse. □ Here you will find Surah Al-Kawthar in Arabic text, but for those not strong in reading Arabic, we’ve included the roman transliteration to help you with the pronunciation. Our mission is to make it easy to read and understand the Qur’an. Abu Bishr said: I said to Sa`id, “Some people claim that it (Al-Kauthar) is a river in Paradise.” Sa`id replied, “The river which is in Paradise is one item of that good which Allah has bestowed upon him (Muhammad). In Sahih Bukhari 4965, narrated by Ibn Abbas: The word ‘Al-Kauthar’ means the abundant good which Allah gave to him (the Prophet (ﷺ) Muhammad). My Ummah will come to me, then a man among them will be pulled away and I will say: “O Lord, he is one of my Ummah” and He will say to me: ‘You do not know what he did after you were gone.” (Sunan an-Nasa’i 904) Its vessels are more than the number of the stars. For he who hates you, he will be cut off.’ Then he said: ‘Do you know what Al-Kawthar is?’ We said: ‘Allah and His Messenger know best.’ He said: ‘It is a river that my Lord has promised me in Paradise. Therefore turn in prayer to your Lord and sacrifice (to Him only). Verily, We have granted you (O Muahmmad) Al-Kawthar. We said to him: ‘Why are you smiling, O Messenger of Allah?’ He said: ‘Just now this Surah was revealed to me: In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. It was narrated that Anas in Malik said: “One day when he-the Prophet (ﷺ) was still among us, he took a nap, then he raised his head, smiling. When he dies, there will be no one to remember him.” This surah was revealed to assure Prophet (ﷺ) that he will have “abundant goodness” which is literally the meaning of Al-Kauthar. As bin Wa’il as-Sehmi, the chief of Mecca, used to say: “Let him alone for he is only a childless man (in Arabic referred to as “abtar”) with no male offspring. At the time having a son was power, the lineage, tribe, and the family name carries on. This Surah was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) at a time where the opposition would mock and insult him for not bearing any children. After they were revealed, he took to them for seeking Allah’s protection and left everything besides them. 3Ību Sa’id Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to seek protection against the evil of jinn and the evil eyes till Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An-Nas were revealed. When he became seriously ill, I used to recite (these two Suras) and rub his hands over his body hoping for its blessings. Narrated `Aisha: Whenever Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) became sick, he would recite Mu’awwidhat (Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An- Nas) and then blow his breath over his body. Narrated ‘Aisha: Whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) went to bed every night, he used to cup his hands together and blow over it after reciting Surat Al-Ikhlas, Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An-Nas, and then rub his hands over whatever parts of his body he was able to rub, starting with his head, face and front of his body. In the sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (saws) it says he used to recite these three surahs for multiple occasions, before going to bed, when sick, protection from jinns, and as a prayer for remembrance of Allah. The Power or reciting Surah Ikhlas, Nas and Falaq The higher you climb the social hierarchy of wealth, fame, fortunes the greater the temptations will be to divert you from the straight path. Surah Nas is about the human condition and how it’s always exposed to temptations of shaytan, jinns, and other men.
